Monday 7th July

I had the session with Peter tonight, and I need to start keeping the training diary.

It was a good session, and I was surprised with the numbers (Peter is to send the figures on) I believe I was about 14% body fat!

I need to remove either the Cork to Cobh or the Charleville 1/2 Marathon, they are just too close together to race both of them!

Peter is to send on the initial plan over the next few days.

Where I am?

With only 1 race in 2014 knowing where I am is interesting.

I finished the EMC in 20:44 this year and I did it in 21:06 last year – So I’m still ok,

Last year I had started training in July for Dublin, I haven’t yet started this year and I feel I’m a bit behind.

EMC 5K

I did the EMC BHAA 5K last night, this was my first race all year and it was great.

I had no idea what pace to run at, but I lined up near the front and decided to stay below 7 min mile pace.

I completed the 5k in 20:44 and I’m very happy with the time. I averaged 6:39 pace for the run, and I finished strong – in fact I feel I could have pushed it a bit more.

My splits:

Mile 1 = 6:34
Mile 2 = 6:43
Mile 3 = 6:52

I know I was getting slower, but also the last mile has a lot of hill – so it doesn’t reflect the race.

I felt really good at the half way mark, and I actually started to pass people at that stage. the road was very narrow, so I was weaving around people (they were in my way) at one point with about 1/2 mile to go I actually went to the other side of the road to get around people.

Looking at my running in pictures, it looks like I didn’t do too much heel striking also 🙂

10 mile run

This was the first long run since the 15th March as my Exercise, Health Studies & Personal Training course has killed my weekends.

I really enjoyed the run, I spent the first 6 miles telling myself to slow down, and the last 4 miles were an effort.

At one point of the run my hip flexors on the left hand side complained and that is to be expected!

I was knackered after the run, and I ate all around me.

Good run 🙂
